The Consulate General of Ireland in Vancouver would like to invite you to attend their March First Thursday Business Breakfast: Getting Started with Genealogy with Grace Hama of Vancouver Public Library.

Last year, the Canadian Government unanimously designated March as Irish Heritage Month in Canada. This year, the March Business Breakfast will discuss “Getting Started with Genealogy”.

While our living relatives and family documents are the first port of call to trace our heritage, to dig a little deeper it takes civil and church records, newspaper announcements, directories, military records, cemetery records, and other sources. Irish Heritage Month explores the rich history of Irish Canadian communities, remembers our legacy, and celebrates our continued contributions to Canada. The practical tips in this session will show you how to get looking for your own heritage.

Join the Consulate on Thursday, 2 March and hear from Grace Hama, Information Services Librarian at Vancouver Public Library, who will highlight the resources available at libraries and online for those beginning to trace their Irish heritage in Canada and Ireland. These resources are available for all from any background or heritage – so if you are looking into your non-Irish genealogy or family history, this event will still be relevant for you!
