The 2026 Darkness Into Light walk will be taking place on Saturday, May 9th at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. This very special morning involves a 5km walk that begins at 4:15am (gather beforehand at 4:00 am), where participants walk from darkness into the morning light in the name of mental health and suicide prevention.
This powerful event is more than a walk. It is a shared moment of hope, remembrance, and solidarity. In the early hours of the morning, we come together as a community to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support lifesaving work for people experiencing crisis.
The Crisis Centre BC are this year’s charity partners. They are dedicated to providing help and hope to individuals, organisations and communities, and provide a broad spectrum of crisis support every single day to people struggling with their mental health.
You can register for the walk here and a T-shirt pickup will be organised at the event.
About the Crisis Centre of BC
The Crisis Centre of BC is dedicated to ensuring that every person facing suicide or crisis is met with compassion, respect, and understanding. Every day, they create opportunities for connection so people feel seen, heard, and supported no matter what they’re going through.
Their team of staff and volunteers delivers a wide range of services focused on crisis support, suicide prevention, and support after suicide loss. Through education, training, and direct support, they help individuals and communities build resilience and strengthen their capacity to respond to life’s most challenging moments.
Event Accessibility: This event includes a 5 km walk along a flat, paved path in Burnaby Lake Regional Park. As the walk takes place in the early morning, visibility may be low in some areas. Free, public parking is available close to the walk location. Wheelchair accessible parking spots and washrooms are available in the park.
