In celebration of Irish Heritage Month, the Consulate General of Ireland in Vancouver has partnered with UBC Library to present a special exhibition featuring a facsimile of the Book of Kells.
In 1987, Vancouver’s Irish community formed a 14-member committee that raised $16,000 from 340 local donors to bring the facsimile of the medieval manuscript to the city.
UBC Library’s edition was produced by Swiss publisher Faksimile-Verlag Luzern in 1979 and is accompanied by a presentation book from Vancouver’s Book of Kells Committee. The display also includes a plaque honouring the donors who made this possible.
