Blood Drive in support of Filipino Community

A massive thank you to everyone who signed up to the Irish in BC Partners for Life Team!

Since April 27th, 93 people have joined the team, with 79 donations made and many more appointments booked! There is a constant need for blood donations in British Columbia, more so now after the attack on April 26th at the Filipino Lapu Lapu Day event in Vancouver.

In order to keep up with rising patient needs, Canadian Blood Services are calling on people across the country to be one of the 450 new donors needed every day.

Irish in BC are coming together as a community and show our solidarity with the Filipino community and all those affected by this tragedy. We’re inviting Irish Canadians and friends to sign up for a blood donation through Canadian Blood Services to help fuel Canada’s Lifeline.

Did you know:

  • You can save up to three lives with just one donation.
  • Every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood.
  • Donated blood only lasts 42 days – one of the many reasons why the need for blood is constant.
  • It only takes one hour of your time to save someone’s life.
  • Leukemia patients need up to eight donors a week for their treatments.
  • Crash victims may require up to 50 donors to survive.
  • Less than 2% of eligible Canadians donate each year.
  • 1 million new donors are needed by 2030 to meet the growing demand.
  • There are great snacks after your donation!
