The Consulate is excited to host its second Book Club on 22 June, where they will be discussing ‘Nora’ by Nuala O’Connor.

Following on from the success of their first ever Book Club the Consulate General of Ireland, Vancouver is delighted to announce their next Book Club selection is Nora: A Love Story of Nora and James Joyce by Nuala O’Connor.

James Joyce is one of Ireland’s famous writers, whose literary masterpiece Ulysses follows the events of one single day in Dublin (the 16th of June 1904) and what happens to the characters Stephen Dedalus, Leopold Bloom, and his wife Molly. Every June, Bloomsday is celebrated by J admirers of literature across the globe with readings, performances, re-enactments, and a host of other festivities – like book clubs reading related novels! Why not celebrate Bloomsday 2023 with a gripping fictional account of the passionate love story between Ireland’s greatest modernist writer and the woman who inspired the character of Molly Bloom?

You don’t need to be a literary expert to join – everyone is welcome. However, make sure to read Nora before the book club so you can engage in the discussion. Light refreshments will be provided, and we will be hosting a draw for all attendees for a $50 book voucher, so make sure to be in it to win it!

We have a limited number of copies of Nora at the Consulate so please let us know if you would like to borrow a copy! Borrowing will be on a first come, first served basis.
