Meet our Committee Members!
The purpose of the Irish in BC is to engage, connect and support Irish individuals, organizations and businesses within the Province of BC and assist them in fostering a more vibrant sense of community and of Irish identity. This will be achieved, primarily, by delivering on a proven digital communications strategy.
Each month, we introduce you to some of the wonderful people behind-the-scenes of our non-profit so you can get to know us more!
To finish up the 2022 year, this cold month of December we sat down with the lovely, new mum, Meadhbh Monahan from Fermanagh, in the North of Ireland! Meadhbh moved here to Vancouver in May, 2018 and has been enjoying life in this wonderful city ever since!
We asked her some personal questions, so you can get to know her more:
Where’s your favourite place in BC?
Little Beach and Big Beach in Ucluelet. I just love visiting the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island and watching the mighty Pacific waves crashing onto the shore.
How did you first get involved with Irish in BC, why do you volunteer and how long have you been with them?
I joined Irish in BC as a volunteer in September, 2021 because I wanted to help enhance connectivity between the various Irish community groups in the province, meet new people and network with other Irish people living in Vancouver.
What is your favourite event?
I enjoy CelticFest because it’s a fun, vibrant event that showcases Irish heritage, allows us to experience local vendors’ produce and reminds me of the excitement of St. Patrick’s Day back home.
Any hobbies or interests?
I love skiing, hiking, yoga and – for the month that’s in it – making mince pies!
What is your favourite Irish food, drink or snack?
Wheaten bread with real Irish butter
What do you miss most from Ireland?
My family and friends and the unique Irish ‘craic’.
If you could choose one age to be forever, what age would it be and why?
35 – it’s the first time in my life I felt confident in myself and what I could achieve in the world.
What are three items you’d take with you to a deserted island?
- A radio for Music and current affairs
- A journal and pen
- Insect repellant (the mosquitos love me unfortunately)
